What Kind of Food Can Guinea Pigs Eat?
Guinea pigs are cute, cuddly and friendly animals that make great pets. Like all other animals, guinea pigs need a balanced diet to keep them healthy and happy. But what kind of food can guinea pigs eat?
A Balanced Diet for Guinea Pigs
The best type of food for your guinea pig is specially formulated pellets or hay-based diets that contain all the essential vitamins and minerals they need. Additionally, fresh vegetables such as leafy greens, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and celery should be given on a daily basis to provide additional nutrients. A small amount of fruit can also be included in their diet but it should never be more than 10% of their total intake.
Can Guinea Pigs Eat Strawberries?
Now you may be wondering if strawberries are safe for your guinea pig to eat. The answer is yes! Strawberries are completely safe for your furry friend to consume in moderation (no more than one per day). However, it’s important not to feed them the stems or leaves as these can cause digestive upset due to high levels of oxalic acid which can potentially lead to kidney stones if consumed in large amounts. It’s also important not to overfeed strawberries as they contain natural sugars which could lead to weight gain over time so keep portions small when feeding them this tasty treat!
